About event
The new Czech-Polish quartet of trumpeter and composer Štěpánka Balcarová follows on from previous successful projects inspired by Polish poetry, especially the albums Life and Happiness of Julian Tuwim (2017) and the orchestral Štěstí (2022), awarded the Anděl Award in the jazz category. The current project Zuzanna brings to music the poems of the Polish Jewish poet Zuzanna Ginczanka (1917–1944), whose poetry is characterized by extraordinary sensitivity, irony and reflection of the times.
In addition to Štěpánka Balcarová and the award-winning Polish singer Małgorzata Hutek, the quartet also consists of double bassist Jaromír Honzák and guitarist David Dorůžka - prominent personalities of the Czech jazz scene. who also often collaborate with Polish musicians in their own musical projects.
The concert was supported by the Polish Institute Prague and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
