examination of dogs: examination of the anterior segment of the eye and retina with an ophthalmoscope, use of a slit lamp, measurement of intraocular pressure, irrigation of the tear ducts without the use of anesthesia, exophthalmus - what to consider, use of a gonioscopy lens, Schirmer's tear test, fluorescein test, examination of the third lid
work in groups on case studies: clinical examination, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, therapy, discussion of cases

Fundamentals of ophthalmic surgery
Theoretical part:
Anesthesia, operating field, equipment for magnification (magnifying glasses), instruments, sutures
theory of ophthalmic surgery
Practical part:
surgery of the outer part of the eye
entropium/macroblepharon: tacking technique, Hotz-Celsus, nasal/temporal canthoplasty/fixation to the orbital rim
ectropium/eyelid neoplasia: wedge excision, 4-sided excision, upper eyelid elevation, lateral/H-flaps
3rd eyelid surgery: pocket technique, cartilage excision
enucleation, exenteration, retrobulbar injection, retrobulbar abscess drainage
Module 3 (14. 3. 2026)
Anterior and posterior segment of the eye
Theoretical part:
Anterior segment of the eye (Part 2): cornea, tear ducts (anatomy, physiology, pathology)
Posterior segment of the eye (Part 1): uvea, lens, glaucoma (anatomy, physiology, pathology)
Practical part:
Work in groups on cases studies: clinical examination, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, therapy, discussion of cases
Module 4 (15/03/2026)
Posterior segment of the eye, small mammal ophthalmology and advanced surgical techniques
Theoretical part:
Posterior segment of the eye (Part 2): posterior eye, neurology
Ophthalmology of small mammals – differences in anatomy/physiology, the most common diseases in small mammals, case studies
theory of ophthalmological surgery
Practical part:
work in groups on case studies: clinical examination, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, therapy, discussion of cases
advanced surgery (on pig eye): lattice keratectomy, paracentesis, intravitreal injection, keratectomy, removal of foreign bodies, conjunctival flap (corneo-conjunctival transposition), intracapsular lens extraction (lens dislocation)
