More than thirty years after her remarkable documentary Récréations (1998), which was filmed in the courtyard of a kindergarten, Claire Simon returns with Apprendre (2025), which was previewed at the Austrian Film Museum as part of a large-scale retrospective dedicated to the director, with the support of the Institut français d'Autriche

In the walls of the public institution Anton Makarenko in Ivry-sur-Seine, the filmmaker invites us to take part in the children's everyday life: the small rituals, learning, living together, arguments, conversations and relationships with teachers. A real hymn to the school as an institution and to those who bring it to life.

This screening is part of the program of the Festival des Film francophone de Vienne.

Film screening followed by a discussion with Ilkay Idiskut, teacher and protagonist of the documentary Favorites by Ruth Beckermann.

Ilkay Idiskut was born in Vienna. Her father was recruited as a guest worker in the 1970s and settled in Vienna as a master leather bag maker. Her mother, a kindergarten teacher, came to Vienna after her marriage in the early 80s. Idiskut has been working as a primary school teacher since 2012. She has already worked in various districts of Vienna, at various schools with German-speaking and/or multilingual children. As a staff representative for compulsory school colleges, she is also a voice among teachers who are committed to fair schools, equal opportunities and a more modern, contemporary education system. In addition to her teacher training, she has coaching training, is a mentor for young teachers and has training in language acquisition.

Ilkay Idiskut is the protagonist in Favoriten, a documentary film by Ruth Beckermann. In her school class, she shows how integration can work for children when resources and conditions are right. Idiskut and her students were accompanied by a camera team in their school for 3 years. The film is showing in all Austrian and German cinemas.

Plus de trente ans après son remarquable documentaire Récréations (1998), tourné dans la cour d'une école maternelle, Claire Simon revient avec Apprendre (2024), present in avant-première at the Austrian Film Museum in the cadre d'une rétrospective d'envergure consacrée à la réalisatrice, avec le soutien de l'Institut français d'Autriche.

Entre les murs de l'établissement public Anton Makarenko, à Ivry-sur-Seine, the cinéaste nous invite à partager le quotidien des enfants: les petits rituels, les Apprentissages, the living ensemble, the disputes, the changes, and the relationships with the maîtres and maîtresses. Ilkay Idiskut was never the 1st Mars 1989 in Vienne. He was recruited in the years 70 and was able to work immigré and was installed in Vienna or as an exercée in the Moroccan métier.
