Kateřina Kněžíková v písních (R)

The principal guest conductor of the Radio Symphonies, Robert Jindra, is a connoisseur of vocal music and a deeply committed lover of French music. He is therefore behind the selection of a program composed of three works unknown in the country. Soprano Kateřina Kněžíková will present the songs of Henri Duparc, a composer influenced by César Franck, Richard Wagner and Claude Debussy, the author of a surprisingly small number of works, especially songs with a mood looking back to the turn of the century. He has a close relationship with them. She recorded them with Robert Jindra together with pieces by Ravel and Martin on CD and chose the simple and pious countrywoman Phidylé, the heroine of one of them, as the title of the entire album. Among the most famous operas of the French romantic composer and pedagogue of the Paris Conservatoire Jules Massenet, a contemporary of Antonín Dvořák, Edvard Grieg or Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, are three - Manon, Werther and the oriental Thaïs. Since the end of the 1850s, however, he managed to write more than four dozen of them. However, the majority fell, rightly or wrongly, into oblivion. His symphonic poem Visions, depicting a dream about the old, happy times, has a similar fate... Like Massenet, Georges Bizet also won the Rome Prize at the Paris Conservatoire, which guaranteed his studies at the French Academy in the Villa Medici in Rome. He composed the symphony or symphonic suite Roma for a long decade, until his untimely death in 1875.
