The exhibition Karel Klostermann and the birth of the Šumava marks one hundred years since the writer's death
On the occasion of the centenary of the death of the "poet of the Šumava" Karel Klostermann (1848–1923), Veronika Faktorová from the Institute of Czech Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and Michal Hořejší from the Faculty of Arts of the Czech Republic prepared a traveling exhibition with the title Karel Klostermann and the Birth of Šumava.
The intention of the authors is to show the writer in a completely new context after more than a hundred years. The exhibition, based on previously unconsidered archival sources, tells the story of an author who was part not only of the expanding book market at the end of the 19th century, but also of the rapid development of Šumava tourism. a key player who literally stood at the birth of its Czech identity and which still serves as a guarantee of local memory.
The sixth stop for a total of eleven interpretive panels is the Antonín Švehly Library, where the exhibition will be located between May 4 and November 29, 2024.
The opening accompanied by a guided tour will take place on November 4, 2024 from 6 p.m.
