**From Belétage, Bay Windows and a group that's enough!**

In this lecture we will first turn to the fading historicism (and the **fading monarchy** with its **expired social order**).
We would like to discuss with you the conditions under which a group of young artists decide to leave the **establishment of the Künstlerhaus** (*secedere* = *go away from*…) in order to create something completely new, spectacular, modern .
We can clearly see this development in the buildings around the turn of the century.
Some buildings are still historicist, but already have a “*bit of Secessionist style*”**, others are already completely **radical** and become Viennese “**scandal buildings**”.
In our lecture we will also talk about the **dealing with Art Nouveau buildings** in Vienna...

Of course, we also look at influential Art Nouveau buildings from **Germany, England, France, the Baltics and overseas, especially from the USA** and illuminate the **interactions** of the different approaches to art.

We also take an interested look at the **countries of the Habsburg Monarchy** and what manifestations of Art Nouveau take place here.

The new aesthetic conception, the new art standards **covers all areas of life.** In the age of industrial mass production, the need for real, soulful, high-quality craftsmanship is growing, which should also **be accessible to all levels of society**: ***Design for all***! In the lecture we will look at whether and how the **Wiener Werkstätten** will follow this claim (“*Does a Nachtkastl have to be aesthetically appealing?*”).

Art Nouveau is **one of the last pan-European/international art styles**. A little later, stylistic pluralism took hold.
