Thematically matching our meeting at the Simmering power plant, two weeks later we take a free tour of the Spittelau waste incineration plant. Who's joining?
It is a work of art, is particularly clean and has set new standards in environmental protection. Our waste incineration plants supply a third of all households supplied with district heating with environmentally friendly heat.
On the tour of the Viennese landmark, we go on a journey into how heat is produced from waste. The Spittelau waste incineration plant has been around for 50 years now and since then it has been burning tirelessly for climate protection. By 2040, district heating in Vienna should be climate-neutral and completely free of natural gas.
We look through the glass floor of the control cockpit deep down into the huge garbage bunker. And take an exclusive look into the control center, where the entire waste incineration plant is controlled. During a tour we also learn interesting facts about eco-architect Hundertwasser and Vienna's waste and recycling system.
