🎨 Stanislav / Stano Filko, born in Veľká Hradná (June 15, 1937 – October 23, 2015), belongs to the most significant and at the same time the most globally reflected visual artists not only of his region, but of the entire Slovak history in general. He constantly returned to his home in his thoughts and works. After completing his studies in exhibition management at the Secondary School of Art Industry in Bratislava (1956 — 1960), he continued to study at the Department of Monumental Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava under Professor Petar Matejka (1960 — 1965). In addition to an endless range of media, since then Filko has also permanently devoted himself to painting and monumentalism.
🖼️ The exhibition STANO FILKO: COLOR AND SYSTEM, FACE AND RUB is based on his experimentation with this discipline in a retrospective interpretation of his creative life-long efforts, starting with his years of study. Just as the author himself directly intended, the exhibition brings literal access to his paintings, not only to their fronts, but also to (often equally important in Filko's) reverses. The painting is thus presented not as a "surface" medium, but as a true object and installation in full time-space dimensions, also thanks to the contemporary architectural solution of Ján Studený.
🌈 The exhibition STANO FILKO: COLOR AND SYSTEM, FACE AND RUB will offer an unusual opportunity to be in direct contact with the entire repertoire of the author's approaches in relation to color, painting and image. It will enable the perception of the works from all sides, while in several cases it will welcome visitors inside them. The curatorial project brings a very intense experience and experience with color, painting and image-object-space in general, in a time span from "classic" modernity, through neo-avant-garde to the present. It thus creates inspiration and didactic lessons from the life (adolescence, development, progress, becoming) of the artist as such. The exhibition will bring an exhaustive retrospective view of Stano Filko's work and will also present works that will be exclusively presented to the public for the very first time.
🤝 The work is kindly lent by The Estate of Stano Filko.
🌍 The exhibition STANO FILKO: COLOR AND SYSTEM, FACE AND RUB partially overlaps with his large-scale retrospective STANO FILKO: 12 CHAKRAS OF BECOMING at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg (opening on April 2).
📸 Photo and video recordings will be made at the event, which will be published later.

🎨 Stanislav / Stano Filko, born in Veľká Hradná (June 15, 1937 – October 23, 2015), ranks among the most significant and internationally recognized visual artists not only of his region, but of Slovak art history as a whole. He continuously returned to his home in both his thoughts and works. After studying exhibition design at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Bratislava (1956–1960), he continued at the Department of Monumental Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava under Professor Peter Matejka (1960–1965). Alongside an endless range of media, Filko continuously devoted himself to painting and monumental art.
🖼️ The exhibition STANO FILKO: COLOR AND SYSTEM, FRONT AND BACK builds on his experimentation with this discipline through a retrospective interpretation of his lifelong creative efforts, beginning with his student years. As the artist himself intended, the exhibition offers a literal entry into his paintings—not only their front sides, but also their reverses (which are often equally important in Filko's work). Painting is thus presented not as a "flat" medium, but as a true object and installation in full spatial and temporal dimension, enhanced by the contemporary architectural concept by Ján Studený.
🌈 The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with the full range of the artist's approaches to color, painting, and the image. Visitors will be able to experience the works from all sides, and in many cases even enter their interiors. The curatorial project delivers an intense experience of color, painting, and the image-object-space across a timeline from "classical" modernism, through neo-avant-garde, to the present. It provides inspiration and insight into the life (growth, development, progression, becoming) of an artist. The exhibition presents a comprehensive retrospective view of Stano Filko's work, including pieces that will be shown to the public for the very first time.
