About event

The festive closing concert of the jubilee year will present a lyrical fairy tale, a concerto grosso and the world premiere of a contemporary author. The Concerto for clarinet and orchestra was composed by Jiří Teml (*1935) this year, and he says about the new piece: "I have always been attracted to the clarinet by its range, sound compatibility and color, as well as virtuoso articulation possibilities."< /em> Suk's suite Fairy Tale, written in 1899-1900 at the request of the poet Julius Zeyer for his stage fairy tale Radúz and Mahulena belong to the golden fund of Czech music. The composer later reflected on the composition process by saying: "The most beautiful years of my life began", and made no secret of the fact that he identified the beautiful Mahulena with his bride, Dvořák's daughter Otilka, whom he had married a few months before he took composing. The concert and the jubilee year of the festival will be closed by the magnificent String Quartet with Orchestra by Bohuslav Martinů. Martinů completed the work modeled after a concerto grossa, in which a string quartet plays the soloist role, in France in June 1931 and premiered a year later in Marseille. Visitors will hear it performed by the Pavel Bořkovec Quartet accompanied by the Zlín Philharmonic.

Program:

  • Jiří Teml: Concerto for clarinet and orchestra (world premiere)
  • Josef Suk: Fairytale Op. 16
  • Bohuslav Martinů: String quartet with orchestra H207
