Die Alkestiade

Ancient Greece, long before its great heyday. People recognize their fate in myths and oracles, symbols and prophecies. The young Princess Alkestis doesn't want to accept the prospect of a predictable life as a wife and mother. But then the noble Admetos manages to pass an impossible test and win her as his wife in the competition. A god must have helped him. Is there a higher will in marriage? On the day of the wedding, three lesser shepherds appear. In one of them the god Apollo walks in human form. But no one can find out in which.

Along its archaic story of rebellion and sacrifice, submission and revenge, THE ALKESTIADE asks eternally young questions of a struggling, meaning-seeking humanity.
