About event

When Stuart Murdoch launched his indie pop band Belle & Sebastian in Glasgow almost 30 years ago, it was as part of a social project for the unemployed - at the time, Murdoch was himself unable to work for a long time due to a chronic illness and was therefore looking for something he could also manage. Nevertheless, he unintentionally and quickly established himself as an outstanding thought leader in the entire British indie scene.
Belle & Sebastian - almost unchanged since the turn of the millennium and consisting of Murdoch (vocals, guitar), Stevie Jackson (guitar), Chris Geddes (keyboard), Sarah Martin (vocals, violin), Dave McGowan (guitar, bass), Bobby Kildea (guitar, bass) and Richard Colburn (drums) - have long been among the most important representatives of this genre and have enjoyed enormous international success. Almost all of their twelve albums to date have been in the top 20 of the UK and top ten of the Scottish album charts. Commercial success is certainly not one of the priorities of her artistic work; Much more important is the ongoing development of their own unique songwriting and aesthetic sense.
The seven-piece band made their debut in 1996 with the album “Tigermilk”. “If You’re Feeling Sinister” followed in the same year. Belle & Sebastian achieved commercial success two years later with their third studio album “The Boy With The Arab Strap”, for which they received a BRIT Award for Best British Band, among other awards. More music awards followed, as the follow-up albums also achieved similar success in Europe, but also in Australia and the USA.
And rightly so: Stuart Murdoch has always shown a unique feel for melodic emotions between extreme melancholy and optimistic optimism. They meander through their music full of gravity, giving them an almost hymn-like feel. This means that their songs and lyrics always have a depth that makes every single line of the song seem sincere and authentic. Not only on record, but especially live on stage, the septet creates a unique atmosphere. This was particularly proven by their retrospective “What to Look for in Summer”, published in 2019, the recordings of which were recorded live at concerts on a US tour, not without reason. Now Belle & Sebastian are coming to Germany in March 2026 for two double concerts in Cologne and Berlin to perform their two 1996 albums “Tigermilk” and “If You’re Feeling Sinister” live in their entirety for the first time on two consecutive evenings. These should not only be very special evenings for long-time fans and nostalgics; Because Belle & Sebastian will prove on these evenings how timelessly great these two albums are.
