With sunny greetings from California and their danceable alternative rock hymns, Bad Suns are coming to Germany for two concerts in March. Also in their luggage: their fifth, very engaging album “Accelerator”, with which the trio takes stock and looks at everything they have been through together as a band. Christo Bowman (vocals/guitar), Gavin Bennett (bass) and Miles Morris (drums) have been playing together since 2012, going viral almost immediately with their magnetic blend of indie rock and '80s synth sheen. After four successful albums, the Los Angeles trio reached a point of realignment and centering: recording their exuberant EP “Infinite Joy” (2023) was a cathartic experience that recalibrated Bad Suns and set them on the exciting path to creating “Accelerator,” which features twelve tracks full of dance-pop hooks. "We saw the 'Infinite Joy' EP as a new beginning for the band. I felt that longing again," reflects Christo Bowman. "With 'Accelerator' being our fifth album, but also our first studio album as a trio, as well as the first album in my 30s, we knew this was going to be really important. We didn't want to take this lightly. We saw this album as a mountain we wanted to climb."
When planning their rise, Bad Suns once again turned to their regular producer Eric Palmquist, who also produced their debut album “Language & Perspective” (2014), its follow-up “Disappear Here” (2016) and fourth album “Apocalypse Whenever” (2022). During the recording of "Accelerator," Palmquist encouraged the band to channel their sense of renewal into an energetic sonic direction that they had previously explored in a digression-like manner. While tracks like the previously released "Communicating," the anthemic opener "Slow Karma," the pulsating "Why Am I Like This" and the dazzling club cut "Just Like Magic" reveal a captivating pop turn for the band, "Accelerator" is still deeply rooted in the original DNA that made Bad Suns a sensation with early hits like "Cardiac Arrest." The fast-paced pop melodies echo the title of "Accelerator," but the lyrics are filled with moments of pause and reflection, as Christo Bowman considers his past actions and makes the conscious decision to embrace personal growth and impending fatherhood. One thing is certain: when you look back on life, there will be no regrets, because at least there was no lack of love. Anyone who would like to dance together with Bad Suns will have the opportunity to do so in Cologne and Berlin in March.
