The Valentines

The Valentines are a Czech indie pop band from Hradec Králové, which was formed in the spring of 2017. The line-up consists of: Honza Doležal (bass guitar, vocals), Ondřej Čepek (guitar, synthesiser) and Štěpán Bucher (drums). Oscillating between David Bowie's '80s Let's Dance aesthetic and contemporary guitar pop, the young trio play, in their own words, "cheerful songs about the saddest things".

< p>In 2019, The Valentines won Radio Wave Startér's "undiscovered chart". The victory in the charts provided the band with more popularity and the opportunity to record a new single Did My Back Hurt Your Knife? and a music video. The very participation in Startér also caused their song Just Us to be used in Michal Hogenauer's film Tiché doteky, which was nominated for the Czech Lion for 2019.

The song Stay or Go, which was recorded at home in a room, and with which The Valentines reached the Czech final of the Eurovision Song Contest, produced by frontman Honza Doležal, as well as the two previous tracks, and Filip Vlček, who is also behind their mix. The master was then taken care of by Ted Jensen.

The Valentines' debut album called You All Look Beautiful When You Dance is released in spring 2024.
