Ratboy
Jordan Cardy, known by the stage name Rat Boy, is a British musician born on February 21, 1996 in Chelmsford, Essex. Since 2013, he has been publishing his first recordings on the SoundCloud platform, combining elements of punk, hip-hop and indie rock. He took the name Rat Boy from his classmates at school. His first major composition was the single Sign On, which was released in 2015 on the Parlophone label and referred to his experience with short-term employment and unemployment.
In 2016, he was nominated in the BBC Sound of poll and also appeared in the MTV Brand New chart. He won the Best New Artist award from NME magazine. A year later, he released his debut album SCUM, on which Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon collaborated, among others. The album drew thematically from the everyday reality of young people in Great Britain.
The second album Internationally Unknown was released in 2019 under the Hellcat Records label and was produced by Tim Armstrong from the band Rancid. In 2022, Cardy founded the Lowlife side project, with which he released the album Payday.
In 2024, the third studio album Suburbia Calling followed, which was created in his home Essex. Producer Stephen Street, known for his work with The Smiths and Blur, participated in the record. The album presents a mixture of ska, punk and Britpop elements and is thematically based on the suburbs where the musician comes from.
