Petr Fiala
He studied at the Brno Conservatory (piano, composition, conducting) and graduated from JAMU in 1971 in the class of prof. Jan Kapra.
As a composer, during his studies he was influenced by the works of A. Honneger, B. Bartók, S. Prokofjev, B. Martinů and L. Janáček. After graduating from JAMU, he became one of the authors striving for the synthesis of new procedures (especially sound-colored) with the best traditions of the 20th century classics. Thanks to the sensitive fusion of tradition and the present, his compositions find grateful interpreters and a wide audience response.
In addition to his teaching (he was a professor at the Brno Conservatory) and composition (he is the author of about 180 compositions), he has been intensively engaged in choral conducting and conducting. As a composer and conductor, Petr Fiala is a laureate of a number of national and international competitions, works as a lecturer in conducting courses and as a member of international juries. He is invited as a guest conductor to our and foreign orchestras and choirs when performing vocal-instrumental compositions. He belongs to recognized personalities in the fields of composition and interpretation. It stands out with a sense for the construction of large areas and their internal contrast. In 1990, he founded the Czech Philharmonic Choir in Brno, which under his leadership developed into one of the best European choral ensembles.
In 2009, he received the Order of Cyril and Methodius from the Czech Bishops' Conference for outstanding results in the field of conducting and composing. which is closely connected with contemporary spiritual music and cantatas in honor of Czech national patrons.
