Munly & the Lupercalians

Munly & The Lupercalians is an American-Canadian project. Headlining the line-up is Denver dark country icon Jaye Munly, an unmistakable figure thanks to his faded appearance with sunken eyes that have a spark of fantasy. A trained linguist of English literature, his songwriting is close to Tom Waits, Nick Cav, or the poetics of Edgar Allan Poe. He found love in gothic stories with sad and even tragic endings. The husky baritone browses the dark sides of life in all shades of Anglo-American poeticism, storytelling and Gothic literature. In his academic work, he was engaged in literary research mainly from the Victorian era.

He squeezed the atmosphere of large dark houses, creaking attics and wandering between the world of the living and the dead into his poetry and drama - several times awarded with prestigious prizes. In his concept, he created a mystification around the fictitious city of Lupercalia, in which live strange inhabitants dressed in some kind of scary costumes. He created this world in his fantasy novel Confessions To Scare, which is to be followed up by the first album Kinnery of Lupercalia, Undelivered Legion (2022) from the upcoming trilogy. Munly waited twelve years for the whole concept of his fantasy world to fit together with musical arrangements from alt-country, gothic rock, blues and gospel.
