Meral Polat Trio

Meral Polat is a Dutch singer, actress and theater maker with Kurdish roots who has gained critical acclaim for her energetic fusion of Kurdish folk music and raw grooves. While her debut album Ez Ki Me (released in 2022 under the banner of Meral Polat Trio) was a personal search for Alevi-Kurdish identity inspired by the poetry of her late father, the album Meydan carries a strong message of female emancipation, solidarity and defiance of patriarchy. Her music is based on minimalistic blues arrangements, which on the new album are mixed with Anatolian rock, Afrobeat and swing. Her speech is legendary and is full of dramatic twists, microtonal shifts and melodic embellishments typical of Middle Eastern music. With a new backing band, he brings even more rhythm, rock'n'roll and captivating energy to the stage. Famous compositions from her discography include the viral single Meydana Gel, Ez Kî Me or Çiya Icaro.
