Arrested Development

Arrested Development founded MC Speech together with Headliner as a positive counterpoint to gangsta rap, which was especially popular in the early 90s. In addition to education and a positive approach to life without drugs and excessive consumerism, the themes of their compositions are devoted to the mostly black reality in the USA. In 1993, Arrested Development won two Grammy Awards and was named Group of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine. Arrested Development became the first hip-hop act ever to win a Grammy Award for Best New Artist (and still holds the award in that category to this day). In addition, the group also won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Single for their hit Tennessee. The song was also included among the 500 songs that shaped rock and roll by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and among the 100 best songs of the 90s by the television station VH1.

After a short break between 1995 and 2000, Arrested Development started recording new music and performing again at the start of the new millennium. The band's current line-up consists of Speech, 1 Love, Tasha LaRae, Fareedah Aleem, Za' and JJ Boogie.
