Annotation:

Course "Loss and Recovery: Supporting the Client and Therapist in the Grieving Process" is professional training for psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers and other mental health professionals. It focuses on the development of competences when working with clients who are going through loss and grief.

The content of the course is based on current scientific knowledge about grief, attachment and trauma. Participants will learn to distinguish between natural and complicated grief, traumatic reaction and depressive symptomatology and will receive guidelines for formulating a case and planning appropriate therapeutic interventions.

The course offers a deeper understanding of the dynamics of loss in an intrapsychic and relational context - including work with ambivalence, guilt, anger or disruption of identity and life continuity. Attention is also paid to the transference and countertransference aspects of work with grief and the effects of the client's loss on the therapist's inner world.

Elements of self-experience, work with case studies and practice of specific interventions that can be used across therapeutic directions (e.g. work with narrative, imagination, ritual or bodily experience) are part of the education. The course integrates relational and somatic-oriented approaches with the aim of supporting the regulation of the nervous system and the integration of the traumatic experience.

The final part is dedicated to reflecting on the role of the helping professional in accompanying grief, working with one's own experience of loss and supporting long-term professional sustainability and self-care. The course thus offers space not only for expanding professional competences, but also for personal and professional integration of the topic of loss in helping practice.

Lecturers:

Mgr. Hana Křížová is a psychotherapist and crisis interventionist. She worked on several helplines and in various non-profit organizations focused on providing crisis intervention and therapeutic support to families and children in difficult life situations - for example, families experiencing violence in close relationships, children in substitute family care and families who have lost a loved one.

In recent years, she worked as a crisis interventionist and therapist in a crisis center for children and adults in Prague. She currently has her own psychotherapy practice for children and adults, and at the same time teaches courses focused on crisis intervention, the development of self-awareness and resilience, and topics related to bereavement care and bereavement.

She completed comprehensive training in crisis intervention, psychotherapy training in Gestalt therapy, and subsequent postgraduate training in Gestalt therapy for children and adolescents. She was further educated in the field of work with trauma, completed training in the method of anger management and a number of other partial courses.

Although her background is primarily in the gestalt approach, she also relies on psychoanalytic and psychodynamic thinking for a long time. Creative and creative work in psychotherapy is close to her, and in her practice she is also inspired by other directions, such as neurobiology and somatic approaches.

She enjoys drinking good coffee, being curious and walking. Hills and mountains make her happy, on which she does not like to climb, but she prefers to view the world from them.

Mgr. Barbora Racková is a psychotherapist and crisis interventionist. She worked as a crisis interventionist on helplines for children and adults, as an external teacher at HTF UK and led hagiotherapy groups at the Bohnice PN. Currently, she is the head of the therapy team of the Vigvam Counseling Center (a counseling center for the bereaved), has her own private practice, and works as a training lecturer at the Institute of Existential Hagiotherapy.

She has completed comprehensive training in crisis intervention, comprehensive SUR training, psychotherapy training focused on working with children IPDAR, postgraduate courses in work with trauma, motivational interviews, etc. In her teaching activities, she focuses on the topics of mourning and death, spirituality and spiritual needs of clients and other existential topics. The deep-dynamic approach is therefore what it primarily relies on, psychoanalysis is no less important for it, but also the existential view (Frankl, Yalom, Längle).

She likes to combine seemingly incompatible things, black retrievers and her black humor basically pull her out of black topics, she goes to the couch a few times a week to relax and lately she's been totally into macha lattes with raspberries. Although she is originally from Aš, she considers the Jizera Mountains to be her native region, and although she lives in Prague, Brno is one of her favorite cities.
