After the premiere in Prague's Bio Ok in 2018 and after the first Slovak release at Kine Úsmev in In 2019, the paintings based on the film noir will again be exhibited to the public. This will happen as part of the accompanying event to the noir weekend in Košice called Film noir II.
Film noir. Crime pictures that dominated American cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. Is it a genre, a stylistic tendency, or just a historical series of films? One way or another, "noir" became a phenomenon that outgrew its geographical and temporal boundaries, as well as the barriers of its medium.
Film noir gave world cinema a specific gloomy atmosphere and a unique dark visual, based on the expressionist camera and its typical contrasting play of light and dark. The nocturnal mise-en-scène full of shadowplay and silhouettes is artistically extremely grateful, which is captured by the collection of oil paintings based on the motifs of classic noir films.
The author of the paintings is academic painter NIKOLAJ LESYK, who studied painting and architecture at the university in Lviv, Ukraine. As part of his artistic work, he gradually worked in the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and Paris. Currently, his long-term place of work is Košice.
The opening will take place with the personal participation of the artist and the jazz accompaniment of the gentlemen from Košice's RETRO DIXIELAND.
