Annotation:
Film critic, theorist, screenwriter, director. Louis Delluc is the first major figure in the history of cinema in which these activities combine and support each other. Eisenstein, Buñuel, Rivette, Truffaut, Pasolini and others will follow. To create true, sublime, supreme art through cinematography. And at the same time conduct film criticism (essays, theory) so that it is real literature in every sentence. At the very beginning of this – fortunately still unfinished – story (under the sign of Sisyphus) stands the name Louis Delluc. Copies of the films Horečka and Woman from Nowhere have been preserved in the National Film Archive, which appeared on the Ponrepa screen several times. The current retrospective consists of newly restored films from the Cinémathèque française collection. public with the international film avant-garde and with its main pioneer in France. The Teige-Delluc connection was all the more important because there were not many opportunities to see Delluc's, L'Herbier's or Epstein's experiments with one's own eyes, even if only in a narrow circle of interested parties.
Milan Klepikov
"Louis Delluc is a film poet, a pure poet, par excellence. (…)
Modern poetic art leads to irrationalism, which, however, does not despise spirit and intellect and lives only a pure, rich, unexplored and nuanced emotional life.
And Louis Delluc introduced the poetic film on this path. He gave this art of black and white - rhythm, vigor, used all the possibilities of cinematographic simultaneity in the confrontations of the past and the present and the future, in the play of those suggestive opposites that we can already find in Griffith's Intolerance, but which was only fully exploited by Delluc."
