About event
Wyrd War calls all soldiers of war-ravaged Portland to assemble on Thursday November 6 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the most outrageously explosive installment of the DEATH WISH franchise with a rare 35mm print of DEATH WISH 3 (1985).
Following the grim exploits of the first sequel, tortured and inexplicably unlucky former architect turned vigilante Paul Kersey (played once again by a charming and increasingly ambivalent Charles Bronson) returns to New York City where he is almost immediately wrongly arrested for the murder of his former Korean War buddy. Kersey is taken to a holding cell where he encounters the psychopathic leader of a street punk gang that has been terrorizing elderly residents of an isolated East Manhattan neighborhood since he has been exiled. Corrupt and overwhelmed Police Inspector Richard Shriker (perennial genre heavy Ed Lauter) offers “Mr. Vigilante” a deal: he can kill as many punks as he wants, but he reports back to him. Once Kersey is turned loose to do what he does best, all hell breaks loose. He soon recruits assistance from victimized citizens who are ready to fight back as they collectively race toward one of the most insane third acts ever filmed. Characterized by cartoonish violence, excessive pyrotechnics and relentless physical stunts that resulted in injuries on set, DEATH WISH 3 delivers on the controversial promise of revenge films that became wildly popular in the 80s as real crime spiraled out of control in many U.S. cities (and RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II obliterated box office ticket sales worldwide).
Come dressed as a street punk. Or a cop. We won’t judge. This is the DEATH WISH to see. "Stay awake while we kill this guy."
