Workshop Soundpainting – komunitný zbor v Host_Opera

Take part in our workshop where you will learn the basics of the artistic sign language Soundpainting. And if you feel like it, you can also participate in the production of the contemporary music theater Host_Opera as a member of the community choir.

Soundpainting is a universal sign language created more than 50 years ago by the American composer Walter Thompson. Today, it contains more than 1,500 gestures, with which the soundpainter guides the joint creation in real time: the participants react to them creatively, and a unique work is always created in the moment. No musical or theater experience is necessary to master it - everyone can participate based on their own experience.

The workshop will be led by Samu Gryllus, composer and soundpainter, teacher at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He has been engaged in soundpainting since 2006, and in 2011 he received a teacher's certification in Paris. During the workshop, participants will learn the basics of Soundpainting - not only the simple signs that are necessary for an opera performance.

Participants of the workshop can actively participate in the Host_Opera performance on November 8 as a chorus directly from the audience. The show, based on documents, tells a true story from 1973 during the dictatorship: two young men tried - unsuccessfully - to reach the West by kidnapping girls their own age. Host_Opera is exceptional in that it builds on joint participation and collective storytelling: the audience is not just a spectator, but becomes a part of the performance. The work asks how a community can be formed under social oppression and what the relationship between society and repressive power can be.

The workshop will be held in English, participation in the workshop is free, capacity is limited, registration is required:
