About event
Workshop of Japanese calligraphy - Shodo, the traditional art of writing with a brush that combines language, movement and personal expression. Accompanying program to the GA-I-SU-RA exhibition. 🇯🇵 💫
In cooperation with the Czech-Japanese Society (ČJS), the Center for Contemporary Art DOX has prepared a workshop on Japanese calligraphy – shodó for visitors to the GA-I-SU-RA exhibition.
The workshop loosely follows on from the legacy of Peter Geisler, Japanologist, journalist and calligrapher, whose life and work form one of the contexts of the exhibition. Participants will get to know the basic principles of Japanese writing and calligraphy, try working with a brush and ink and create their own sign or short inscription inspired by the themes of the exhibition – identity, memory and the relationship between cultures.
The emphasis will be placed not only on the technique, but also on the experience of writing itself, which in Japanese tradition is perceived as a form of concentration and self-expression. The workshop is intended for the general public, no previous experience is needed.
📎 How much does a ticket cost? CZK 490
📎 How long does it take? 90 minutes.
