Content of the workshop

Cat friendly approach (lecture, Dr. Černá)

Cats have evolved with emotions and behaviors that are necessary for their survival as both predator and prey. The clinical environment and required veterinary examinations can result in behavioral responses to protective (negative) emotions. Cat-friendly interactions require understanding, interpreting and responding appropriately to cats' emotional states. They need to be given a sense of control when performing the manipulation for the examination. This lecture and workshop will focus on the new AAFP/ISFM guidelines for veterinary interaction with cats. "Cat Friendly" approach and handling techniques assist veterinarians and veterinary nurses in interacting with and handling cats to reduce the impact of fear and other protective (negative) emotions, thereby improving feline well-being. By implementing these guidelines, team satisfaction and client confidence in the veterinary team will increase, and our care of feline patients will also improve. During this lecture and workshop, veterinarians will learn how important it is to understand and respond appropriately to the cat's current emotional state, as well as how to adapt each visit to the individual patient.

Cat friendly approach (practical part, Dr. Černá)

Manipulation of cats with clinical examination focusing on the cardiovascular system

Cardiovascular examination in cats (lecture and practical part, Dr. Del Nero)

In a case-based lecture that includes audio recordings of auscultation, you will learn how to perform a thorough cardiovascular examination of cats and interpret your findings. Hands-on training will include handling cats and cat-friendly practices to enable you to complete a clinical examination focusing on the cardiovascular system.

Measurement of blood pressure and comorbidity in hypertension in cats (CKD, hyperthyroidism, etc.) (lecture, Dr. Černá)

Hypertension is a common disease in older cats, which is usually diagnosed in conjunction with other diseases such as chronic kidney disease and hyperthyroidism (so-called secondary hypertension), but there is also primary hypertension. The clinical consequences of hypertension can be serious, related to "target organ damage" (eye, heart, brain, and kidney), and early diagnosis followed by appropriate treatment is important to reduce the morbidity of these patients. Although this is a common disease in cats, routine blood pressure monitoring is unfortunately not often performed in practice, which probably leads to underdiagnosis of feline hypertension in clinical practice. This lecture will focus on the practical possibilities of blood pressure measurement in cats and the treatment of hypertension.

Point-of-care cardiac ultrasound in cats (lecture and practical part, Dr. Del Nero)
< br/> In this part of the workshop, you will learn about the important axes of point-of-care ultrasound that are used to evaluate the feline heart, as well as the application of each axis. Participants will be able to practice obtaining these ultrasound images of the heart at a point-of-care ultrasound with Dr. Del Nero using cat-friendly techniques.

Workshop is awarded points as part of continuous education KVL CR and KVL SK (please enter your KVL number in the notes in the basket).

It is possible to use points from the Norbrook loyalty program and the Purina veterinary program for payment.
