White Boy Scream + Gertie Adelaido

An experimental evening on the Pink Whale with White Boy Scream and Gertie Adelaido will take place on November 13 at 8:00 p.m.

White Boy Scream is an experimental classical project of an opera singer and composer Michaela Tobin. In his latest release Bakunawa (The Arc of the Deadly Bomb), he dissects his voice using electronics as a means of exploring identity and ancestral trauma. Bakunawa is a tribute to the pre-colonial mythology of her motherland, the Philippines. Part sound ritual, part diasporic narrative, Tobin “uses his voice and instruments as both tools and weapons…” (The Wire Magazine). Micaela Tobin is currently on faculty as a voice instructor at the California Institute for the Arts.

Gertie Adelaido is a non-binary sound experimenter, artist and creator of meta-punk and ADHD core. Through the heart of chaos, they combine different areas of harsh noise, raw experimental sound, their hardcore, metal and screamo roots, contemporary electronics, drums and mix it all into a contemporary finished mix. Gertie's work can be a little problematic in general, being too experimental for HC and too HC for experimental, but the final piece is a unique genre crossover and its expression of contexts. They shout, sing, modulate their voice, but above all they spread the message, fight for human and animal rights, all accompanied by a harsh but fragile melancholy. Gertie's debut album Immortality Between Paranoia and virus was released in early 2024.
