Always new. Always surprising. Every concert is an adventure. Wenzel is a master of improvisation. Completely unknown songs appear out of nowhere, place themselves next to those that were long thought forgotten and spin a new web of sense and nonsense with this poet's hits.
Wenzel, washed with all the waters of the stage, with all the sweat of orgiastic concerts, remains surprisingly true to himself, no matter what profession he is currently working in. He seems to be driven by an indomitable greed for life, happiness and laughter. He enchants his listeners with gestures, looks and the sound of his voice, tanned by whiskey and smoke, by melancholy and intoxication. Accordion, guitars and piano change in his hands depending on his mood.
It is always the moment that is celebrated, these irretrievable moments of a life, a love, a concert. Wenzel doesn't shy away from anything. The profane hit is just as important to him as the sad song or the sarcastic couplet. His listeners are the kings. He's the fool. He holds the mirror in front of his face and the audience recognizes themselves. Maybe life is a little more bearable this way. Sometimes this makes the beautiful truth and sometimes you just have to lie more beautifully.
Wenzel is an author, composer, musician, singer, actor and director. Tours took him through France, Austria, America, Nicaragua, Cuba, Turkey, etc. Wenzel was on stage with Arlo Guthrie, Randy Newman, Billy Bragg, Konstantin Wecker and many other musicians. Wenzel has received honors from the GOLDEN AMIGA, the Heinrich Heine Prize, the German Cabaret Prize, the German Record Critics' Prize (eight times), as well as the Best Songs List Prize.
The current CD "Strandgut der Zeiten", from which Wenzel will of course also present songs, was released at the end of 2024 on the Matrosenblau label.
