About event

From Friday 24.1. a new exhibition called The Flood and Uncle Noah by Samuel Petrlík will be on display at our cafe mamacoffee Podolská.

Fatal catastrophe and exaggeration.
Destruction of the material ephemeral and renewal with the new, fresh and juicy. Perhaps a substitute for material thinking for a healthy modest one. Or youthful skepticism instead of the cliched repetition of platitudes? But also a simple exchange of an old non-functioning one for a new one. This and much more reveals the theme of the Old Testament Flood as it can be understood in the Bible.

In the paintings I worked with the motif of a cardboard box soaked in water. It is a metaphor for the collapse of the old and limited. The box represents our world beyond which we either do not dare or are not allowed to look. Beyond this boundary is the abyss, the universe, God, the tortoise with the four elephants? Who knows? The goal is not so much to find out what is beyond the border as it is to endlessly search for an answer to this abstract question. An answer that is guaranteed to be impossible to capture with the senses of a mortal.

I decided to accompany this difficult motif with playful portraits
of inanimate objects that were inspired by songs by Werich and Voskovec - Potopa. I perceive them more as a commentary on the Czech nature and a
cynical attitude towards scary topics.

And after all, not everything is so black.
"Sowing and reaping and cold and heat,
Summer and winter and day and night
They will never cease all the days of the earth”
Gen 8:22
