Vršovické literární centrum Waldes, Moskevská 57, Prague 10
The works are inspired by this year's theme, which is literature. Students looked for words, sentences and motifs associated with favorite literary works, authors or personal reading memories in their calligraphies. Here, the traditional Japanese art of writing connects with literature as a source of imagery, emotions and quiet concentration. The exhibition takes place in the Waldes Literary Center in Vršovice, which is located in the premises of the former Waldes Museum in Vršovice and continues its cultural tradition as a meeting place for literature, art and education
The name kotodama (言霊) can be translated from Japanese as "soul of words". In the Japanese tradition, it expresses the idea that words have their own power and energy — they can influence human thinking, emotions and the reality around us. Language here is not only a means of communication, but carries a deeper meaning and effect.
The title of the exhibition Kotodama – the soul of words thus refers not only to literature itself, but also to Japanese calligraphy, in which the meaning of words is connected to the gesture, rhythm and personal expression of the author.
Iroha
Japanese calligraphy is the art of the present moment.
The Iroha school was founded and run by Petra Vitásková, who studied Japanese calligraphy at the Nihon Shodou Kyoiku Gakkai school in Tokyo under the guidance of teacher Akiko Crowther. He teaches the classic rinsho technique, rewriting the texts of old masters and models from the basic style to the abstract, but also leads students to creative writing and creating their own works. Every year they prepare an annual exhibition where they present the art of Japanese calligraphy to the Czech audience.
