VELHARTICE CASTLE
The castle was founded at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries as the ancestral seat of the lords of Budětice. Under one of the most important owners, Bušek the Elder and Bušek the Younger from Velhartice, the castle saw its greatest prosperity. In the 15th century, Menhart of Hradec, the highest burgrave of the Kingdom of Bohemia and an opponent of George of Poděbrady, hid the crown jewels in Velhartice. In the 17th century, the estate was acquired by the imperial general Martin de Hoeff-Huerta, who had a new late-Renaissance palace built in the upper courtyard. During his reign, the re-Catholicization of the local region also took place very hard. The last noble owner was in Velhartice, in the period II. World War, Josef Windischgrätz. Since 1945, the building has been under the administration of the state.

WERICH'S COTTAGE
The admirers of Šumava know and it is of great importance to them that the great Czech fashion legend Jan Werich shared his love for Šumava with them. Jan Werich's stays in Velhartick are still remembered by older residents, his cottage and fishing are still a lively subject of interest for local people and tourists.

ST.MARY MAGDALENY CEMETERY CHURCH
The construction of the church began in 1373. In the 16th century, the church was rebuilt in late Gothic style, the cemetery gate and portals date from the same period. At that time, a northeastern vestibule with a diamond vault was added to the church. The church was significantly modified in the 19th century. There are also rumors that a wooden church once stood on the site of the stone church, in which the settlers with their women and children one day hid from robbers. They burned the church and the unfortunates were burned alive. The cemetery is also supposed to contain an unmarked mass grave, where the murdered Sudeten Germans were thrown during their savage deportation after the Second World War.

A long, long time ago, in times that none of the existing tombstones seem to remember, something terrifying is said to have happened here. Something so disgusting that so far no one has been able to cleanse the cemetery of the consequences of this act. Something that is said to have later inspired Karel Jaromír Erben to write the ballad The Wedding Shirt, first published in 1843.
