About event
Eri Mantani, winner of the Liszt Piano Competition and artistic director of the Piano Festival, presents a program in which piano works by Franz Liszt are the focus and resonate with each other across eras.
The first part is Liszt's piano piece Polish Melodies from the Suite Harvest in Woronińce, which was written on the Ukrainian country estate of Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein and on the melody based on Chopin's song Girl's Wish. This is followed by the lyrical six Consolations, Am Wallenstadter See from the Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage), right up to the colorful sounds of the impressionistic The Water Games of the Villa d'Este, which later had a lasting influence on Ravel and Debussy - a panorama of Liszt's poetic sound world, which finally expresses itself in brilliant virtuosity in the Great Paganini Etude No. 6 unfolds.
In the second part we hear J.S.Bach's masterful contrapuntal art in Liszt's arrangement of the Prelude and Fugue in A minor for organ and with Beethoven's 5th Symphony ("Symphony of Destiny"), Liszt then lets us experience the power and drama of the orchestra through a single instrument to create a spectacular experience.
