Vivat vox organi 2025: Organ a nemý film (organová improvizácia na nemý film Golem z roku 1915)

Organ and silent film on Lazovna Street

We invite you to another festival delicacy: an improvisation concert for the historic silent film Golem, from 1915 (100 minutes). The silent film will be presented with Slovak subtitles. The music for the film will be created, directly during the performance, a leading Slovak organist, composer, pedagogue, organizer of cultural events, as well as an excellent organ improviser Stanislav Šurin. This delicate connection of the organ with silent film will include Saturday, 7 June 2025 from 19:00, in the Evangelical Church on Lazovna Street in Banská Bystrica.

The story of the film will take place in Prague, in the 16th century. The Jewish rabbi blames that his nation is in danger. He therefore decided to make the clay of a huge person to whom Golem gives the name. With magic, he brings him to life to protect the Jews from danger. Initially, Golem is devoted to his Lord. Once, however, when Golem saves the life of the ruler himself, who, as an expression of gratitude, cancels a decree on the forced departure of the Jews from the city, the rabbi Golem will decide to turn back into ordinary clay, because his role is over. Before Rabbi can destroy Golema, Golem will wake up again to life. And at that moment, the planets enter the devilish constellation and Golem begins to sow destruction.
