MAREK KVETAN: Fake It Till You Make It
The Považská gallery in Žilina presents the first individual exhibition of Marko Kvetan, a prominent figure of the Slovak scene ( 1976), which had already established itself in the broader Central European context. In his intermedial work, the author programmatically prioritizes analytical starting points and critical attitudes for the reflection of the present when formatting hybrid objects and installations. In the current series of his works, he focuses on the modeling of distinctive 3D realizations, ironic objects and saturated visual environments with the involvement of contemporary technologies in the sculptural process (digitization, computer modeling, CT scans, 3D prints, etc.).
The exhibition consists of key series of works from contemporary work (2020-24), dominated by six different "stones" on distinctive chairs (Cornerstone), three enlargements of the author's hand in skeletal form on antiquing pedestals (Touch of the Creator), baroque mutant vases (Vessels of Temporality), or a circular installation of plaster containers, the contents of which were consumed by the author himself during the covid lockdown (Data Storage 20.21). These supporting series are complemented by more intimate works from an earlier period: a neon light object (Archa, 2014), a vertical of small plates (Little Plates, 2016), or a cycle of carbon drawings (Restless Mind, 2021). Marek Kvetan thus continues to format the contemporary visual language through objects and installations and capitalizes on his journey over the last decade...

Marek Kvetan (b. 1976 in Bratislava), a leading Slovak artist and teacher, lives and creates in Bratislava. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava 1995-2001), in 1999 – a study stay at the Faculty of Arts of BUT in Brno. Awards: 2016 – laureate of the NOVUM Foundation; 2010 – finalist Henkel Art Award Vienna; 2008 – laureate of the NG 333 Prize, NG Prague; 2003 – Grand prix of the Triennial of Contemporary Slovak Graphics, ŠG Banská Bystrica.
