In the project "Kmit", Lukáš Šmejkal examines the landscape as a human construct shaped by permeating technology and at the same time as a unique organic phenomenon. In his current painting, he connects the mechanical precision of the energy infrastructure with the intuitively biomorphic lines of nature. The strict geometry of electrical lines loosens into living meshes with anatomical morphology and connects with deconstructed, almost ornamental figures. These recurring fragments, together with numinous motifs, respond to technological paradigms mediating our perception of the landscape and capture transitional events on the border between tangible, technological and symbolic. The result is an image field in which the usual boundaries between landscape, body, technology and imagination are blurred.

The "Kmit" project is divided into two chapters. The first chapter "Kmit: Nebe barvy medi" takes place in the NoD Gallery, the second episode "Kmit: Eye of the Node" will take place in the Trafostanice gallery in Tábor.

Lukáš Šmejkal (*1995) belongs to the emerging generation of Czech visual artists and already during his studies as a visually recognizable painter he was among the prominent representatives of young Czech painting. He is a graduate of the Art Studio II at UMPRUM in Prague. During his studies, he completed two internships – one with Sam Lewitt, the other with Matt Mulican. His painting work has long been characterized by work with fragmentary records of urban and natural landscapes, in the beginning mainly nocturnal, later, thanks to a postgraduate internship in Portugal, also coastal and daytime. The reflection of form and content in his work culminated in the pictorial linking of these landscapes with organically developing human figures, thus naturally exploring the boundaries of abstraction and symbolism for himself. Most recently, Šmejkal's paintings were part of the exhibition Wandering by Pinning (Galerie Kvalitář, Prague 2024), Flicker Type Field (Prague Art Week 2024) and Pulse of Samsara (The Design 2025), Bydlet Ústí (Galerie Hraničář, Ústí nad Labem, 2026), Velocity (Future Gallery, Berlin, DE 2026).
