What does Vienna taste like? And why is the Vienna Mixed Set considered one of the most exciting wines of origin in Austria?

Hardly any other wine stands for its origin as much as this Viennese mixed set. It has shaped the vineyards on the outskirts of the city for centuries and tells the story of a wine culture that sees diversity as a strength. The focus is not on one grape variety, but rather on the interaction of many different varieties that grow together in a vineyard, are harvested together and processed together.

In this tasting workshop, participants delve into the history and special features of the Viennese Mixed Set and find out why it is now considered one of the most important flagships of Viennese urban agriculture. As a Slow Food Presidio, it stands for origin, biodiversity, craftsmanship and the preservation of a unique wine-growing tradition.

The focus is on the special characteristics of the Wiener mixed set: the traditional mixed planting of different grape varieties, the importance of this cultivation method for diversity and resilience, as well as the question of why the Viennese mixed set is much more than a cuvée.

Together with Sophie Wieninger, the participants also explore the pyramid of origin of the Vienna Mixed Set DAC - from regional wine to local wines to Rieden wines. Using selected wines, you can understand how origin, location and terroir shape the character of a wine.
