In today's world, war is not only fought with tanks and missiles. It is also guided by words, images, narratives. A war that we cannot see, but we feel its consequences. We call it hybrid: it combines military operations with disinformation, manipulation of public opinion and undermining of trust. It attacks not only the territory, but also the consciousness.
The Great Patriotic Trip shows what can happen when lies are accepted as truth. A trio of people, convinced that reports of Russian aggression are just propaganda, together with the filmmakers set out for
Ukraine - directly to the places destroyed by the war. Instead of a discussion in the studio, they face a reality that they refused to accept.
This film is not only about Ukraine. He also talks about what is happening at home - in conversations, on networks, in families. It shows that hybrid warfare has casualties even among those who have never entered the battlefield. And that's why it's important to talk about it.
How did the film come about?
In the spring of 2024, a bold call was made: "Do you think that the war in Ukraine is just propaganda? That the media exaggerates the reports of casualties and suffering? Come to the audition and become part of a new documentary project."
In the fall of 2024, three selected participants - people convinced that the official image of the war is distorted - together with a team of filmmakers, she sent a professional and security escort directly to the places where the war is taking place in all its reality. The film captures their reactions in the moments when rockets whiz over their heads, when they hide in shelters, walk around mass graves, talk to children in an underground school, to wounded soldiers and to broken survivors.
A great patriotic trip is a journey to the epicenter of war and a person's confrontation with the truth that he had rejected until then. admit.
The film asks difficult questions:
• Who bears responsibility when people start to believe lies?
• Is it still possible to get out of the world that is based on lies?
• What role does the film play when lies become part of the war arsenal?
