Usof + Enchanted Lands | Sonitus

Sonitus presents a pair of projects that represent post-ambient tendencies on the current scene. The Portuguese musician Usof will present his ephemeral constructs, alongside him the producer Enchanted Lands, who integrates elements of trance and ASMR into her fantasy worlds.

The basis of Usof's work is ambient, which gradually mutates into an increasingly unique form, as captured by the latest recordings Wish You Were Nicer (Psychic Liberation / enmossed, 2023) and Stay Longer (Theory Therapy, 2025). If the classic mission of the genre is to induce a state of meditation, the Lisbon artist (and also an important driver of the scene there) encourages active listening.
Ambient surfaces get clearer contours in the form of melodies, beats and movements that are constantly simmering just below the surface, but it is not a simple combination. Usof's fusion - the producer cites influences from both oak and '90s club electronica - means stripping as often as layering, giving rise to structures with the fragility of a dream.

As the name suggests, Enchanted Lands sketches worlds. The Prague-based producer likes to turn to older utopian motifs, which she takes over from the new age, nineties adventure or trance, and gives them a futuristic charge. Ambient contemplation is complicated by fragments of melodies, fleeting rhythms and (potentially fake) field recordings or ASMR sounds, which shift the shape of the compositions to plastic collages.
After recordings on major labels Genot Centre, Quantum Natives or Pointless Geometry (with the Misty Picture project), the last album Dreamgirl Workshop (2023) was self-released - and due to the more pronounced use of vocals, it is again a step in a new direction.
