About event
Andrea Chénier's four-act opera of Italian verism is one of the highlights of the late 19th century. Giordano mastered the ability to create powerful dramatic music with an intense emotional charge. The orchestral instrumentation is full of colors and the vocal lines capture the heart - that is why this work belongs to the golden fund of world opera, to which opera houses return again and again. The libretto created by L. Ilic was created without a literary model, but it is based on the life of the real historical figure of the French poet André Chénier. It is through his eventful life that the audience can be transported to the dynamic time of the Great French Revolution (1789).
However, the theme of the opera is more than the political events of the time, love in a time of social change: a fragile and impractical poet stands in the middle of a harsh revolutionary reality and finally succumbs to it. Thus, the basis of the opera is contrast: lyrical love in the midst of revolutionary fury, the lyrical cantilenes of Chénier and Maddalena are contrasted with the tense ensemble scenes. However, the essence of opera is easy-to-remember melodies and a strong emotional experience of music.
