About event
We invite you to the launch of Anna Valentová's new novel "The Nine-Headed House" on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the Creative Center at Hlavná 17 in Trnava.
Excerpts from the book are read by Michal Jánoš from the Ján Palárik Theatre.
Anna Valentová was born in 2000 in Trnava. She studied philology (French - Romanian) at the Comenius University in Bratislava. She published poems, short stories and translations of poetry and prose in the magazines Familia, Kapitál, Glosolália, Fraktál, Dotyky and Verzia. She is the laureate of the 2025 Journalist Award in the Reportage category. She also received an award in the Poviedka literary competition.
The novel "The Nine-Headed House" is her debut.
A story about a large family, growing up, religious trauma. The novel invites a tour of the family home to answer the question: what can the space it inhabits reveal about a family? In the text, the author alternates brutal honesty like kicking the bathroom door with hints that float between the lines like dust in the corner of the hallway.
The nine-headed house knows everything.
In a house with nine heads, the soft mother cannot breathe, the father must punish and the children must not misbehave.
You can't see into the nine-headed house through the closed blinds; you must enter.
