TŘÍKRÁLOVÝ PLES
THREE KINGS BALL
Event by: Regii Caroli regis - soubor Školy starého tance
Location: Emmaus Monastery, Vyšehradská 49/320, Praha 2
About event
We invite you to the 26th medieval ball in the refectory of Prague's Emmaus Abbey Na Slovanech. We will traditionally celebrate the New Year in the spirit of medieval traditions and customs. Together we will go into history following the footsteps of the celebration of Christmas in the Middle Ages.
The full-length historical program will be accompanied by the music of Fragium16 under the artistic direction of Pavel Jirásek. The dancing entertainment of all the lovely guests will be taken care of throughout the evening by the tanzmagister, Miroslav Smaha. The old dance ensemble REGII CAROLI REGIS will introduce you to noble royal and bouncy bourgeois dances. A novelty will be the announcement of a prize for the most contemporary clothing.
The ball will take place in the form of lessons and illustrative demonstrations of individual dances, which will be explained to all guests. Everyone, even complete beginners, can participate.
Guests will come to the ball through the main entrance to the monastery through the Gothic cross corridor that surrounds the Paradise courtyard. Adjacent to the refectory is a dressing room.
Please choose costumes according to medieval fashion from the 11th to the 15th century, i.e. from the Romanesque, Gothic and early Italian Renaissance periods. For those interested in period costumes, we are happy to recommend one of the theater rental companies, or we can borrow costumes from the dance school's fund for a mere contribution to the dry cleaners of CZK 500. A historical costume is not a condition for participation in the ball! Guests who do not own a costume may come in contemporary formal attire.
You can also invite your friends and acquaintances to dance and sit together at a medieval feast. Traditionally, the hall will have laid tables and historical dishes, to which please bring food and drinks according to your taste, as there is no kitchen in today's monastery.
Every year we announce a show of the most successful recipes for a dish or a drink according to a historical, preferably medieval, but also old Bohemian recipe. Taste, complexity of the recipe and ingredients are evaluated. The best ones will take home valuable prizes!
The hall will be open from 4:00 p.m. to change into costumes, the dance evening program will begin at 5:00 p.m. The entrance fee to the treasury of the monastery will be paid in the amount of 400 CZK. Ticket reservations are not necessary.
In view of the increasing costs, we had to increase the entrance fee as well. But on the other hand, you will pay extra for a beautiful space and nice music.
We look forward to meeting you in Emmaus!
