About event
TONY PAGODA IS A NAPLES NIGHTCLUB SINGER WITH A CHALLENGED PAST. DUE TO HIS TALENT, HE HAS BROUGHT THROUGH. HE HAD SUCCESS, MONEY AND WOMEN IN LIFE. NOW, AT THE PEAK OF HIS CAREER, HE IS ABOUT TO PERFORM AT THE RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL IN NEW YORK IN THE 1950s IN FRONT OF THE LEGENDARY FRANK SINATRA HIMSELF. song, or rather a hallucinogenic state induced by alcohol and cocaine, memories, sudden love troubles and flashes of knowledge about the meaning of life - or, to put it more prosaically, how to simply survive - flood during Pagoda's singing. All of this he hands out in handfuls to friends and strangers in a stormy, overflowing stream of consciousness.
The character born from the pen of director Paolo Sorrentino, originally created for Toni Servillo in the film The Superfluous Man, gets its third life when it comes to the theater stage. Into his costumes, sequins and gelled hair - in what the critic Rodolfo Di Giammarco called "a delightful transformation of the villain" - Iaia Forte takes on with extraordinary intensity.
"I like to imagine," says the actress, "that behind Pagoda's swaggering smile hides a woman's soul and a longing for lost harmony. And, fortunately, the theater is a place where naturalism can be suppressed and the boundaries of reality can be to distribute freely.”
