About event
The Tomáš Zelený Trio, composed of drums, double bass and piano, combines the energy of the New Orleans jazz tradition with the modal aesthetics of the 60s. Their music is a combination of melodic openness, lively collective improvisation and the modern sound concept of a piano trio. All members are graduates of JAMU in Brno and belong to a new generation of musicians who enrich their playing not only with technical skill, but also with experience from their travels around the world. These inspirations allow them to discover new musical directions and bring original elements to their repertoire. This group represents a contemporary concept of a piano trio that respects the jazz tradition, but at the same time offers a fresh and energetic sound that will appeal to a wide range of listeners. The Tomáš Zelený Trio brings music that will captivate both classic jazz lovers and those looking for new and inspiring musical experiences.
Composition:
- Tomáš Zelený – drums
- Mikuláš Pokorný – piano
- Pavol Mojto – double bass
Drummer Tomáš Zelený, a graduate of Brno JAMU, belongs to the young generation of jazz musicians, who naturally follow the tradition and at the same time develop a distinctive approach to jazz music. He collaborates with a number of prominent personalities of the Prague music scene, and his style is characterized by sensitivity, dynamism and rhythmic sophistication.
During his studies, he spent a semester in the United States, where he became more familiar with gospel music and became involved in the live music scene there. This experience significantly enriched his musical vocabulary with new rhythmic and harmonic approaches and deepened his interest in the spiritual and community dimension of music.
In addition to jazz, he has also been devoted to Brazilian music for a long time, the rhythmic and melodic variety of which is clearly reflected in his playing. In addition to his activity as a player, Tomáš is also profiled as an arranger who connects the jazz tradition with the search for a contemporary sound.
