🎹 The fact that jazz musicians are inspired by various currents of folk music from all over the world is not as unusual as it might seem. And a few talents who broke through at a very young age are already known to the music scene. But none of them are as special as 𝗧𝗗𝗼𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗮 The young man who taught jazz to speak the Armenian musical language 🎧🎶🫶

Indeed, Hamasyan's first touches with the piano date back to three years of his age. At the age of six, he began to learn systematically, and although sometimes at this age he was more interested in metal guitarists and wanted to be one of them, at the age of nine he already began to study jazz. Not only in the demanding harmonic structure and forms of jazz compositions, but especially in improvisation. Early on, already at the threshold of puberty, he understood that the code he received in his genes as an Armenian was as powerful as listening to his American jazz idols, and he began to incorporate motifs from the folk music of his nation into both his improvisations and compositions. Which lasted him even after moving to the United States, where he continued his musical education and practice.

Hamasyan's youth is lined with victories in competitions and other honorable awards, the world began to discover that from an unexpected place an extraordinary talent has been added. And so at the age of sixteen he won the first prize in the French Jazz à Juan Révélations competition and the same year the Critics' Prize in the piano competition of the prestigious Montreux festival in Switzerland, and at the age of nineteen he became the laureate of the important Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz competition in Los Angeles. However, he had already recorded his debut album World Passion, released on the independent label Nocturne.

This was the beginning of his very active recording career, the result of which is ten studio albums, mostly with original repertoire, based on the articulation of jazz and Armenian music, with occasional subtle steps towards, for example, progressive rock. Hamasyan's albums can be found on a number of prominent labels, including Verve and ECM, but in recent years he has been acquired by the distinctly connoisseur label Nonesuch. He also released his latest album StandArt on it. Its name suggests that this time, for the very first time, he set off one hundred percent to the preserve of the so-called The Great American Songbook and shot his vision of interpreting the compositions of such giants as Richard Rodgers, Charlie Parker or Jerome Kern on it. In a review, The Times said: "Standards are tunes whose harmonic richness and rhythmic flexibility make them ideal for improvisation. No matter how fashion changes in jazz, they remain popular. Nevertheless, Tigran Hamasyan tests their endurance on this interesting and challenging album."

Whether the program of Tigran Hamasyan's solo concert at the Rudolfinum will consist of standards or not, it is certain that the experience of this evening will be highly superior.

"Phenomenal pianist, irrepressible entertainer, experimenter with technology and creative composer of world music." 𝚗𝚗𝚗𝚗𝚗𝚗

"Tigran Hamasyan combines ancient Armenian sacred music with jazz piano." New York Times
