Punk is not dead - numerous bands have proven this in recent years, the British punk and grunge scene in particular is experiencing a strong revival. One of the most prominent bands of this renaissance are The Virginmarys, whose energetic mix of genres inspires many.
The band was founded in 2009 in the otherwise quiet Macclesfield when Ally Dickaty came together as singer, Danny Dolan as drummer and Matt Rose as bassist. The Virginmarys first released a limited series of sold-out EPs before their debut album “King of Conflict” was released in 2013. Reviews were consistently positive - the album reached third place on the Billboard New Artist Alternative Charts and was nominated for Best Album at the 2013 Classic Rock Awards. The band also won “Best Breakthrough Act” at the same awards. Their second album “Divides” followed in 2016, which was produced by rock legend Gil Norton. With their classic style of powerful guitar riffs, intense drums and Dickaty's rough voice, the band gained more and more fans. The often very profound lyrics about personal struggles and socio-political issues appeal to many in the rock and punk scene.
