About event
Krautrock & arabic influences, free jazz & Egyptian shaabi music
The Dwarfs of East Agouza group was formed in Cairo, Egypt and consists of the American Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B.), the Egyptian Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya) and the Canadian Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect). Their unique sound, recognizable at first listen, is a fusion of krautrock, Arab influences, free jazz and Egyptian Shaabi music.
The trio was formed in 2012, when all three members lived in the same apartment building in Cairo's Agouza district. Their instrumental improvisations are driven by Louca's North African percussive loops and vibrating keyboards, Shalabi's West African-tinged free jazz guitar, and Bishop's ferocious krautrock-style bass. The trio successfully performed at major festivals such as Unsound Festival and Roskilde Festival. The group has released 6 original albums: Bes (2016), Both Sides Of The Curtain (Live In Beirut) (2017), Rats Don't Eat Synthesizers (2018), The Green Dogs of Dashur (2020), High Tide In The Lowlands (2023) and Sasquatch Landslide (2025), which they will present at the Prague concert.
