About event
Although beginning with Hale's whimsical but prescient idea for an artificial moon to aid in navigation, the presentation concentrates on serious design proposals made by pioneers, space agencies and contractors and tracks the evolution of artificial gravity, power systems, construction methods and scale. Based on the book "Outpost in Orbit" which Robert authored with BIS Fellow David Shayler under a commercial NASA contract for the 20th anniversary of ISS.

Robert Godwin and his work have been seen on the BBC, CNN, CBS, Discovery Channel, History Channel, CBC, Fox, and countless radio stations and podcasts. He was the Space Curator at the Canadian Air & Space Museum. His 2015 book on Canadian Professor “William Leitch” rewrote the early history of rocketry. He is a lifetime member of both the National Space Society and the Space Frontier Foundation and a member of the International Astronautical Academy and American Astronautical Society History Committees. He has staged space exhibitions in the USA and Canada and has spoken at countless venues including the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC.
Robert’s work has appeared in his award-winning book series “The NASA Mission Reports” which have sold in excess of 300,000 copies; far beyond best-seller status in the world of non-fiction. Contributors to the books included Apollo astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Richard Gordon, Dave Scott, John Young, Edgar Mitchell, Tom Stafford, Neil Armstrong, Wally Schirra, Walt Cunningham, Jim Lovell, Gene Cernan, and Harrison Schmitt.
In 2007 the International Astronomical Union's Committee for Small Body Nomenclature approved the naming of a main belt asteroid after Robert for his efforts in documenting space history and raising public awareness about Near Earth Objects. "4252 Godwin" is an absolute magnitude 12.7 minor planet discovered in 1985 by H. Debehogne at the European Southern Observatory.
