About event
On January 23, 2027 at 8:00 p.m., the Dvořák Hall of the Prague Rudolfinum will come alive with film music from the workshop of world composer icon Ennio Morricone. Melodies from the cult films Once Upon a Time in the West, Good, Bad and Ugly or Professional will be performed by the famous Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague under the baton of Martin Šanda.
The members of the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague (BSOP) together with the chief conductor Martin Šanda and accompanied by the Bohemian Choir Prague and Boni Pueri invite you to the world of fantastic music that conquered the world through the silver screen. The Best Of Ennio Morricone concert will bring the best of the work of one of the greatest composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Italian composer Ennio Morricone made his mark in the world of cinema thanks to the captivating melodies for the films Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America, The Good Bad and the Ugly, Incorruptible and many others, which will not be missing from the BSOP concert. Martin Šanda himself has a strong relationship with Morricone's work. Together with John Williams and Hans Zimmer, it represents the absolute pinnacle of film music for him. "In addition, he is one of the pioneers in the use of electronic musical instruments as part of an orchestra. For example, few people today know that the theremin, which is an electronic musical instrument, was used in the very original film recording of Once Upon a Time in the West. I and the orchestra would like to get as close as possible to this version, so we will also use it in our performance during the concert," explains the chief conductor and founder of BSOP. There will also be well-known melodies from the films Sicilian Clan, Sacco e Vanzetti, La Califfa and others.
The concert program will also feature the song Chi Mai from the film The Professional. It is interesting that the iconic music from this film, in which the French great Jean-Paul Belmondo excelled, was played at the actor's funeral in 2021 by the orchestra of the Republican Guard. It was so significant for his career.
Visitors to The Best Of Ennio Morricone concert can look forward to 90 minutes of intense musical experience and more than 100 artists on stage, including the Boni Pueri boys' choir.
