The Art of the Trope - Workshop with @Yael Rozanes
Event by: Yael Rozanes Ben Moshe
Location: THE COFFEE MAN, Müllerstraße 153, Berlin - Mitte
About event
Want your long-form improv to have stronger storytelling and structure?
In this workshop we will dive into the playful world of classic storytelling tropes — the familiar narrative patterns audiences instinctively respond to — and learn how to recognize, lean into, and subvert them for richer, more dynamic long-form scenes.
Instead of improvising blindly toward “something story-ish,” participants will explore the narrative engines that power film, theatre, and television — tools that offer clarity, emotional stakes, and satisfying arcs while still keeping spontaneity at the heart of the work.
We’ll focus on:
*Recognising and using tropes to give your stories structure and shape
*Balance improvisational freedom with satisfying storytelling
*Deepen emotional stakes and character motivation
We’ll explore tropes like:
*Will They / Won’t They
*Enemies to Lovers
*Against All Odds
*Found Family
*The Reluctant Hero
and more...
By the end, performers will leave with a deeper understanding of stories — and a new sense of freedom and confidence in building compelling improvised narratives together.
*This workshop requires at least a year of long form improv experience.
