Iranian judoka Leila (Arienne Mandiová) and her coach
Maryam (Zar Amirová) arrive for the championship of the World Judo Championships in Tbilisi with the determination to win a gold medal for Iran. However, during the championship, an ultimatum comes from the highest places of the Islamic Republic: Leila must fake an injury and lose, otherwise she will be branded a traitor to the nation. Her and her family's freedom are at stake, and Leila faces a life-changing decision - should she submit to the Iranian regime, as her trainer swears her to do, or fight on, for the gold?
Tatami is the first feature film they directed together An Israeli and an Iranian. It is ceremoniously introduced to Czech distribution by the Association of Czech Film Clubs.
"Tatami is a gripping sports drama, excellently written, acted and directed, and although it is fictional, it is an authentic report about the battle between authoritarianism and personal freedom, about elections , to which people are completely absurdly forced. And not only in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
