About event
Growing up in South London in a British-Bengali household, Tara Lily developed a unique perspective on music and global culture. Immersed in the vibrant sounds of her multicultural environment, she recorded everything from jazz and electronica to alternative R&B and classic Indian soundscapes. These diverse influences, coupled with her deep musical understanding, form the basis for a sound that is entirely her own.
It is this cross-genre blend - and her authentic understanding of the cultural worlds that lie behind it - that has attracted the attention of trendsetters and icons such as Virgil Abloh, Gilles Peterson, Iggy Pop, Jamie Cullum and Motown Records UK, who signed Tara as their first British artist. Your music cannot be pigeonholed
; she is a musical exception in every respect.
Tara's debut album "Speak In The Dark" is a bold, introspective work that explores the unspoken - secrets, desires and ancestral memory. Weaving together elements of jazz, trip-hop, electronica, alt-R&B and Indian instrumentation, the album captures the emotional turmoil and creative fire of living with ADHD. A fearless and formidable talent, Tara Lily brings both vulnerability and strength to her work. 2024's Speak In The Dark marks the start of an exciting new chapter for a rising star poised to redefine the boundaries of contemporary music.
